Important Things You Must Look Into When Buying Facial Tissues

There are probably few things more mundane than facial tissues: they need to be soft on the skin, yet able to absorb plenty of moisture; they should not scratch the skin with their texture, and ideally, they should not disintegrate when one sneezes or blows their nose really hard.

Most tissues come with all sorts of promises of supreme comfort and environmental friendliness, which is why you will want to know what you should focus on the next time you are buying some at the supermarket.

In this case, we discovered that many people flush a tissue down the toilet which, for plumbing systems and public water utilities, may end disastrously. In the case of Fine toilet paper, tissues are not made for use in our toilet system. In most instances, they dissolve in more than twenty minutes which can block your system, shut down the water utility system in some way or your skin by being too rough, and not fly apart if you happen to sneeze or are given an extra hard blow.

Tissues tend to come with a lot of claims about their comfort and green credentials, so we’ll show you what’s worth thinking about when you next pick up a box at the supermarket.

Count of Tissues

Tissues in general from one to four plies. This is just simply used to refer to the multiplicity of papers used in layering. Ply count also increases with tissue thickness, softness, tensile strength, and absorption ability of the tissue.

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certified

An international nonprofit organization that sets standards on responsible forest management through a process of certification, the FSC is an international body. You’ll find the FSC tree-tick logo on many tissue packs, but if you take a closer look at the fine print you’ll notice there are three classifications to the label:

Products that may be FSC mix contain timber/fiber from an FSC-certified forest, reclaimed timber/fiber, or other controlled sources. All materials in the entire production volume have to contain at least 70% FSC-certified material, but a product line does not necessarily have to contain any FSC-certified material.

FSC recycled means that the timber/fiber in the product comes only from recycled material, but 15% may be pre-consumer waste (manufacturing scrap that has been reused to produce other panels.) Your best bet will be on products with this logo.

The so-called FSC 100% implies that all the timber/fiber used in a product comes from an FSC-certified forest.

In fact, the FSC logo doesn’t ensure that the whole product was made from a sustainable source, but it does mean that the virgin fibers used to make the product did come from either a forest with higher environmental and social standards or from a forest rerooted under those criteria.

PEFC certification

The Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is an international not-for-profit, nongovernmental organization established to promote sustainable forest management and increase environmental, social, and ethical standards in its use and manufacture through independent third-party certification.

It has a third-party classification scheme and you can recognize its products by its PEFC-certified label. There are two classifications for the label:

PEFC Certified products contain at least 70% wood, on a dry weight basis, from PEFC-certified forests and controlled sources.

PEFC Recycled includes a minimum of 70% PEFC-certified material from sources, at least 70% PEFC-certified material from recycled sources, and wood from controlled sources.
